Breaking Their Silence began with a question: what does the fight to save Africa's endangered wildlife look like through the female lens, both in front of and behind the camera?
To find the answer, she went to the source. Thanks to several connections in America, she was introduced to two women in Africa fighting on the frontline of the poaching war. Kerry trusted that if she lived up to her word about creating the documentary she described, their trust would open the doors to each subsequent warrior woman for wildlife. It not only - took her and her small crew throughout Africa, it took her on to Vietnam where she interviewed four fearless women risking all for the wildlife they love. From rangers, vets, conservationists, prosecutors, zoologists, scientists and conservationists to experts and advocates whose names were not as well known as they are now.
What she found reinforced something she already believed: that courage is the most essential human quality for a passionate life. That standing up for what you believe in, no matter how difficult or how complicated, is non-negotiable. To walk away from what you passionately believe in, is to walk away from your soul.
"Most people don't act because they don't know — you know now, what will you do?" - Kerry David, filmmaker
