Pangolins are still the most endangered mammal. They are poached for their scales, their claws and their meat. Local witch doctors believe pangolins to be extremely potent and only add to their challenges. Nicci’s tagging, monitoring and release program - shown here with Francois Meyer. Too often pangolins die after being poached because they cannot survive in captivity. They are harmless creatures that curl up in a ball at the first sign of a predator approaching. Their scales then engage and they look like a spiky ball!
